Graduation tickets
Information about guest and graduand tickets for graduation ceremonies.
Students who register to attend graduation will be entitled to one ticket to the ceremony and garden reception for themselves plus two free guest tickets.
When you complete your registration for graduation, it is important that you tell us the number of guest tickets you require – zero, one or two. Please choose the correct number when you register, as you will not be able to change this after the deadline has passed.
Children aged two or over are required to have a ticket. The ceremony is 90 minutes long and may not be suitable for children under school age. We advise that you make alternative arrangements for small children. However, we understand that this is not always possible. If you have a guest under school age, your party may be asked to sit at the end of an aisle or near an exit so that the child can be taken outside should they become restless. We would appreciate your co-operation in this matter.
Additional guest tickets
During the graduation registration process, you will be asked if you are interested in purchasing additional tickets (should any spare tickets become available) and it is important that you confirm this information. Registering your interest to purchase additional guest tickets does not guarantee access to the sale of these tickets. There may be ceremonies with more demand than there are tickets available. If additional tickets are available, you will be notified via email around 4 weeks before the date of the ceremony. Extra guest tickets will cost £25 per person.
Where a graduation ceremony has a very limited number of spare tickets these will be allocated by a random ballot to those who registered an interest in additional tickets. The system will randomly select and invite those successful in the ballot to purchase an additional guest ticket. We cannot guarantee that you will be allocated any extra tickets, and we regret that we are not able to prioritise any extra ticket requests under any circumstances. We advise that you do not make travel or accommodation arrangements for your guests until such time as you have purchased guest tickets for them.
Loved ones can't join you on the day? Don't worry, they can still share this moment by watching the ceremony live.
When can I buy a guest ticket?
If you’re successful in the guest ticket ballot, you’ll receive an email by 26 May 2026 with details on how to buy your ticket (£25 per ticket).
You will have 48 hours to complete your purchase using the link provided. You will be limited to one additional guest ticket. If further additional tickets are available, you will be notified via email. If you don’t purchase within this time, your offer will be withdrawn, and the ticket may be offered to another student.
What if I’m unsuccessful in the ballot?
If you’re unsuccessful in the ballot, we will let you know by email. Please note that we are unable to operate a waiting list or prioritise requests.
There are still ways your family and friends can celebrate with you:
- they can watch your ceremony live via the webcast;
- they’re welcome to join you at the graduation reception for drinks and canapés.
Can I give my ticket to someone else or use it for a different ceremony?
No. Guest tickets are non-transferable and can’t be used by another student or for a different ceremony.
Can children attend the ceremony?
Yes, children may attend. Children aged two years or over must have their own seat and require a guest ticket.
When and where do I collect my guest tickets?
You can collect your tickets and guest tickets on the day of your ceremony from Sports Hall 1 (Graduates Registration Desk).
What if I can’t attend after buying tickets?
Please email certificates@stir.ac.uk as soon as possible.
