Kenechi's Story
Why I chose Íæż½ã½ã
While the beauty and calm of Íæż½ã½ã initially caught my attention, the real deciding factor was the university’s commitment to innovation. The Enterprise Programme and the Hive offered exactly the kind of hands-on, incubation-style support I need to develop my ideas at the time.
I found my academic experience incredibly rewarding
The course content was very robust, and easy to assimilate but what I appreciated most was how practical the delivery was. The lecturers were exceptionally competent and brought a high level of expertise to every session. We spent a lot of time on seminar presentations and collaborative work, which made the learning feel very 'hands-on' and applicable to the real world. It was the perfect balance - having a high-energy, rigorous academic program set against such a calm and scenic campus.
I truly fell in love with Íæż½ã½ã
What I value most is the city’s perfect scale; it is moderately sized and incredibly accessible. It offers a rare balance of being a quiet, peaceful place to live while still providing all the necessary modern amenities.
The community is exceptionally welcoming
I found the people to be friendly, open-minded, and inclusive toward international residents. This sense of belonging, combined with the city's natural beauty, made a lasting impression on me. The fact that I have chosen to continue living and working in Íæż½ã½ã today is the best testament.
I carry memories from Íæż½ã½ã into my professional life today
My favorite memories are centered around the collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit of the university. I particularly loved the MSc seminar presentations. The intensive brainstorming that went into preparing for those sessions was incredible; we felt completely immersed in the different global markets we were researching. This made the international business theory feel very real.
Beyond the classroom, my time with the Enterprise programme and ‘The Hive’ was a defining part of my experience. The absolute highlight was the thrill of competing and ultimately winning several entrepreneurial awards and business pitch competitions. Those moments weren't just about the wins - they represented the culmination of all the hard work, research, and support I received. They are memories I carry with me into my professional life today.
My advice for anyone coming to study at Íæż½ã½ã
Arrive with a clear sense of purpose: you are here to earn a degree, so make every single moment count. Don’t just limit yourself to the library. Give your best shot to the practical side of your course—engage in the seminars and build relationships with your lecturers, who are incredibly competent and supportive. I also highly recommend looking into the Enterprise programme and 'The Hive.' Even if you don't plan on starting a business, the skills and confidence you gain from those environments are universal. Finally, take advantage of the campus’s serenity; it’s the perfect place to find the focus you need to excel.
Be intentional, work hard, and make the most of this unique chapter in your life.
My advice for future international students coming to Íæż½ã½ã
First, be a meticulous planner. Ensure your logistics - accommodation, banking, and local essentials—are sorted early.
Second, embrace the 'hands-on' learning. Don't just attend lectures; lead in the seminars and treat every presentation as a boardroom rehearsal. Finally, find your community. Whether it’s through The Hive for business or the International Society for culture. Engaging with others is what transforms a degree into a life-changing experience.
I also made sure I was physically prepared for the Scottish weather!
